    Friday the 13th of May was an emotional day at the Academy.  The Exam season was here and with it arrived a high level of anxiety of our students.  Staff went out to ensure students were well prepared and calm to deal with the task ahead.  But today was different.  Ms Ngondi the Head of Academy had called for a special Year 11 assembly to officially usher in the personalised revision timetable and the onset of exams.  It was an emotional moment.


  • Launch of School Council

    7th May 2016

    The School Council meets regularly and discuss’ a range of possible and practical improvements for the class, the buildings and the Academy in general. Issues and concerns raised by pupils go through their Year Representatives (who have been duly elected), by putting the issue in writing and posting it into the letter box in the canteen or via their Personal Learning Advocate.

    Sport Relief

    22nd April 2016

    For sport relief students raised money by running around the playground. Students ran around 10 times which is more than 1km! Well done to everyone involved, your efforts helped to raise over £93!

    4th April 2016

    On the last day of term students played the role of Crime Scene Investigators. Students took part in activities to identify the possible suspects, this included: impact testing, suspect interrogation, Luminol tests for blood, CCTV, DNA testing and fingerprint analysis.   

    A huge thanks goes to the amazing people who went out of their way to help with the resources and activities!

    The votes were counted and the majority of students analysed the evidence correctly which lead to the arrest of our very own Assist

    Easter Cake Sale

    During enterprise sessions students organised a bake sale to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Students created posters and baked all the cakes which were sold during break and lunch time. Lots of staff members and students bought cakes helping our students to raise £41 on the day.

    Launch of Enrichment

    28th February 2016

    The Elland Academy has successfully launched its Enrichment Activity programme after school. Students have participated in Table Tennis, Darts, Board Games, Photography and Radio Elland clubs during the launch.

    Students have worked cooperatively and independently in the clubs displaying positive attitudes and enjoyed the chance to be responsible for their own curriculum.

    National Citizen Service

    Joe from The Challenge came into school on the 23rd February to speak to our Year 11 students about the opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS). NCS is a nationwide, government-funded summer programme for 15-17 year olds. It focuses on the transition to adulthood - meeting new people, getting involved in the local area, and developing new skills.     Half Term Activities

    14th February 2016

    It may be half term here at TEA but that does not stop us providing activities and creating memories for our students.     9A Enterprise

    8th February 2016

    Year 9 have been learning about the process of making and selling a product. Students have researched the valentines card market, worked as part of a production team, created a selection of valentines cards for sale and are selling them to academy staff and students this week. The students have shown some excellent enterprise skills and we are sure Lewis has a future in project management! Well done Year 9.

    Friday 12th February

    Parents and carers are invited to attend a session to meet and discuss the progress of their child on Friday 12th February. Transport pick up points have been arranged and further information can be found in the letter that has been sent. This is an excellent opportunity to view the academy and to meet the teachers that teach your son/daughter. We look forward to welcoming you to The Elland between 11am and 1pm.

    Representatives of The Elland Academy were pleased to attend the presentation evening on Friday 15th January at Hunslet Boys and Girls Club. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our learners who accessed courses at HBGC. Our staff were able to share the success of Fiona who is now studying Hair and Beauty, Courtney who is studying Uniformed Services and Jordan who is studying construction.     Extended Learning Project - ICT

    The Elland Academy recently launched a series of extended learning projects. Students have been working hard over the past few weeks on a ICT project where students have had to come up with their own app ideas. Their efforts came to an end and were celebrated on the 10th December during a celebration breakfast. Students tucked into bacon sandwiches while looking at and discussing the work completed.     Animation Trip - National Media Museum 2015

    Following on from the successful trip last year with our current year 11 students a selection of year 8,9 and 10 students were invited along to Bradford Media Museum to explore the world of animation. Another fantastic day  was had at The National Media Museum. The students took part in an animation workshop and created their own short stop frame animations.     The Elland Academy visits Media City.

    On 6th October, some of our students visited BBC centre in Manchester, this was a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their knowledge of the careers in news and television. All the students had a great day and were fascinated with how the news is developed. They are looking forward to applying this in their I-media and ICT lessons.
